THIS PLACES AN AWESOME RESPONSIBILITY ON THE MEDIA, AND PARTICULARLY THE PRESS, TO SEE TO IT THAT THE PUBLIC IS PROPERLY INFORMED AND PROVIDED WITH INFORMATION THAT IS HONEST, ACCURATE, AND OBJECTIVE. IT IS A JOB THAT NEEDS DOING WELL AND IT IS NOT EVERYWHERE BEING WELL DONE. MY WORK HAS TAKEN ME TO MANY PARTS OF THE WORLD AND THE COMPANY WITH WHICH I AM ASSOCIATED HAS CARRIED ON BUSINESS IN COUNTRIES UNDER WIDELY-RANGING FORMS OF GOVERNMENT FROM DEMOCRATIC REPUBLICS TO MILITARY JUNTAS. I HAVE SEEN WHAT HAPPENS IN COUNTRIES WHERE THE PRESS IS NOT FREE, WHERE ONLY THE VIEW OF THOSE IN POWER CAN BE QUICKLY AND LOUDLY DISSEMINATED, WHERE THE LIE IS ISSUED AND CAN STAND UNCHALLENGED.
