I REPEAT, THIS CONCENTRATION IN MINING WAS NOT IN OUR VIEW IN AND OF ITSELF ALARMING BUT THE COMPOSITION OF THE MINING GROSS PROFITS AND THE CONCENTRATION IN COKING COAL PRODUCED IN A SINGLE COUNTRY AND SOLD PRIMARILY AS A RAW MATERIAL FOR THE STEEL INDUSTRY IN JAPAN AND IN EUROPE WAS TOO MUCH CONCENTRATION OF RISK FOR OUR COMPANY, STANDING ALONE, TO BEAR. WE CANNOT AND WE SHOULD NOT BE SO DEPENDENT UPON EITHER A SINGLE COMMODITY OR A SINGLE COUNTRY, NO MATTER HOW SOLID EITHER OR BOTH NOW APPEAR. THE ATTITUDE OF THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT WHEN THE LABOUR PARTY WAS IN POWER WAS A MATTER OF EXTREME CONCERN TO US AND THIS CONCERN WAS NO DOUBT DEEPENED BY THE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING MARCONA'S ASSETS IN PERU EXPROPRIATED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
