THIS KIND IT IS EASY TO CONFUSE SYMPTOMS WITH CAUSES AND TO ME SOME OF THE CONCERNS EXPRESSED BY MY CORPORATE COUNTERPARTS ARE VERY REAL, VERY IMPORTANT, BUT NOT NECESSARILY AT THE ROOT OF THE PROBLEM. IF WE THINK IN TERMS OF THE UNITED STATES AND ITS POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC PROBLEMS, THE LAUNDRY LIST MUST INCLUDE INFLATION, THE DECLINE OF THE DOLLAR, INADEQUATE CAPITAL FORMATION, LAGGING EXPENDITURES FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, POOR USE OF OUR HUMAN RESOURCES, AND A GOVERNMENTAL PROCESS THAT SEEMS TO BE EXACERBATING RATHER THAN SOLVING THESE PROBLEMS. INFLATION IS A CRUEL BUT NOT INCURABLE CONDITION.
