Show 5. THE $4.2 MILLION EARNED IN 1956 BECAME $179 MILLION IN 1976. 1976 WAS THE 13TH YEAR THAT EARNINGS HAVE INCREASED AND THE 12TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR OF RECORD EARNINGS. IT IS THE 26TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR IN WHICH THE DIVIDEND PAYMENT WAS INCREASED. ON A PER SHARE BASIS EARNINGS HAVE CLIMBED FROM 16 IN 1956 TO $5.67 IN 1976 AND DIVIDENDS HAVE GROWN FROM 4.9 IN 1956 TO $1.15 IN 1976. SHARE PRICES ALSO RESPONDED. THE LOW WAS $1.18 IN 1956 AND THE HIGH WAS $74 REACHED IN 1975, EARNINGS HAVE GROWN AT THE COMPOUNDED RATE OF 19% FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS, 23% FOR THE LAST 15 YEARS, 28% FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS AND 37% FOR THE LAST 5 YEARS. IF YOU HAD INVESTED $1,000 AT THE HIGH OF THE 1956 PRICES AND RETAINED THE INVESTMENT YOU WOULD HAVE RECEIVED $4,291 IN DIVIDENDS AND YOUR INVESTMENT WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED TO $42,900. IF YOU HAD REINVESTED THE DIVIDENDS |
