Show 2. MUST HAVE DONE WELL BECAUSE HERE I AM BEING ASKED BACK AGAIN JUST 42 YEARS LATER. THIS TIME THE INVITATION AND THE INSTRUCTIONS WERE MUCH MORE OBLIQUE. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM ASSISTANT DEAN BOB SIMON WHO ALLEGED THAT HE WAS SPEAKING FOR BOB BALDWIN. I WAS IMMEDIATELY SUSPICIOUS. I FELT THAT BOB BALDWIN'S INTEREST IN ME HAD BEEN ON THE WANE EVER SINCE MORGAN STANLEY HAD PUBLISHED THE TOMBSTONE RECITING THE PART IT PLAYED IN BRINGING TO PASS THE GENERAL ELECTRIC-UTAH INTERNATIONAL MERGER. SO I PRESSED SIMON TO BE SURE HE WAS AUTHORIZED AND NOT JUST TRYING TO POSITION HIMSELF FOR A FINDER'S FEE IN CASE HE LANDED ME. HE CONVINCED ME THE INVITATION TO SPEAK WAS GENUINE BUT WOULD GIVE ME NO CLUE AS TO WHY I HAD BEEN CHOSEN OR THE SUBJECT TO BE ADDRESSED. MY HOPES SOARED. THE DEANSHIP WAS OPEN. I WAS AT A TURNING POINT IN MY CAREER AND AVAILABLE. I AM SLOWER TO MATURE THAN THE RECENT OCCUPANTS BUT AFTER 25 YEARS IN THE SAME JOB I TOO WAS READY |
