Show total deliveries to approximately 3 million tons. Subject to the conclusion of agreements being negotiated with government agencies for additional railing facilities and port installations, the Blackwater Mine is being expanded to a capacity of 4 million tons. This will require an additional investment of approximately $ 19. 1 million and should become operational by the end of 1972. UDC also holds an 85% interest in a venture called Central Queensland Coal Associates, the purpose of which is to develop a large coking coal area north of Blackwater. The remaining 15% is held by the Mitsubishi interests. The participants have entered into coking coal sales agreements with a dollar value in excess of $1 billion and providing for the delivery of 50. 5 million long tons from the Goonyella region at the rate of 4 million tons yearly and for the delivery of 34. 5 million additional long tons from the Peak Downs region at the rate of 3 million tons annually. To meet these commitment the Goonyella Mine will be brought into production later this year, delivering 2-1/2 million tons in its first year of operation and 4 million tons thereafter. The Peak Downs mine should come into operation a year later. While its long term contractual commitment amounts to 1-1/2 million tons the first year and 3 million tons thereafter, the mine will be sized to a production capacity of 5 million tons which it should reach in late 197 3 and be producing at this rate during 1974. The total capital investment required to bring in Goonyella and Peak Downs at their full rated capacity is estimated at approximately $212. 2 million, with UDC's share of 85% being $180. 4 million. This is the largest project investment ever to have been undertaken by Utah or any 8. |
