Show 6. in Peru and New Zealand and in the ocean transportation of these and other bulk commodities in a large fleet of ships, some of which it owns and some of which it charters. In 1973 I expect that Marcona's mining activities will be in the red. It appears that profits from the New Zealand operation will not be large enough to offset the loss from the Peruvian mining activities which were hampered by labor interruptions that caused production to decrease and unit costs to rise. The loss on the Peruvian mining operations would have been even greater if that activity had been charged with prevailing rates for ocean freight instead of enjoying the benefit of lower freight charges made available to it by Marcona's shipping arm.
