Show 23. MOT FORTHCOMING. BY THIS TIME WE WERE CONVINCED COKING COAL WAS BOTH HARD TO FIND AND WORTH FINDING. SO WE PERSEVERED AND FINALLY IN AUSTRALIA YEARS LATER WE FOUND IT IN ABUNDANCE. WE HAVE BECOME ONE OF THE WORLD'S MAJOR SUPPLIERS OF COKING COAL BUT TODAY THE DAYTON IRON ORE DEPOSIT LIES FALLOW AND THE IDEA THAT STARTED IT ALL TWENTY-THREE YEARS LATER IS STILL ON THE PLANNING BOARDS. U. S. STEEL HAS NEVER YET BUILT THAT INTEGRAGED STEEL PLANT IN CALIFORNIA. IN UTAH WE WERE THE FIRST TO FORESEE THAT IN THE FAR WEST NATURAL GAS WAS BECOMING TOO PRECIOUS A FUEL TO FIRE BOILERS AND WE ASKED OUR GEOLOGISTS TO FIND IN THE WEST LARGE STRIPPABLE COAL DEPOSITS. THIS WAS NOT TOO HARD TO DO BECAUSE NO ONE ELSE WAS LOOKING AND COAL OCCURRENCES WERE KNOWN, EVEN IF THE SIZE AND NATURE OF THE DEPOSITS WERE UNDEFINED. THE BLACK ROCK THE NAVAJO |
