(Slide #3 - Utah's share of Marcona's earnings) Over the decade Marcona's earnings have fluctuated, dipping in the early years during the transition from direct shipping ore to beneficiated products, then rising until 1969 as the operation was expanded. Our share of the earnings declined again last year primarily because of accounting adjustments made to increase reserves for depreciation, taxes, and possible losses in the Chilean salt operation.
