HE MUST HAVE BEEN THE ORIGINAL ROVING REPORTER, FOR AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER AND IN CAPACITIES RANGING FROM REPORTER TO OWNER AND PUBLISHER, HE WORKED ON AT LEAST 14 NEWSPAPERS IN 5 STATES - MINNESOTA, OREGON, CALIFORNIA, NEVADA, AND UTAH. DESPITE THIS EVIDENT RESTLESSNESS THE RECORD SUGGESTS THAT HE WAS INDEED A GOOD NEWSPAPER MAN. THE EDITOR OF A RIVAL PAPER WROTE WHEN MY GRANDFATHER RESIGNED FROM THE NEVADA STATE JOURNAL, A PAPER OF WHICH HE WAS A CO-FOUNDER: "LITTLEFIELD BECAME DISGUSTED AND DREW OUT, CARRYING THE ENTIRE BRAINS OF THE CONCERN." HE SERVED AS PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION IN 1893 AND, EVEN THOUGH HE DIED THREE YEARS BEFORE I WAS BORN, I AM SURE HE WOULD HAVE FELT THIS RECOGNITION BY HIS PEERS, BELATED THOUGH IT |
