Show 3. IN YEARS OR SERVICE. IN THOSE DAYS WE KEPT A SKELETON CREW IN THE OFFICE ON SATURDAY. I HAD THE DUTY, AND K. H. CAME IN WITH SOME PAPERS FOR ME TO SIGN. MUCH TO MY SURPRISE HE THEN SAT DOWN AND PROCEEDED TO TELL ME THE HISTORY OF THE ENTERPRISE FROM ITS FOUNDING FORWARD. IT WAS FASCINATING. HE STARTED OUT BY SAYING: "I CAME WITH THIS OUTFIT 25 YEARS AGO ON A TEMPORARY BASIS AND, AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, IT IS STILL TEMPORARY." HE CONCLUDED ON THE NOTE THAT: "THERE MUST BE SOMETHING FUNDAMENTALLY SOUND ABOUT THIS COMPANY TO HAVE SURVIVED THE KIND OF MANAGEMMENT IT HAS HAD." MY FIVE YEARS AT GOLDEN STATE WERE FOLLOWED BY 28 YEARS WITH MY PRESENT EMPLOYER WHOSE PRACTICE HAS NEVER BEEN TO RECOGNIZE LENGTH OF SERVICE. PERHAPS THIS COMES FROM ITS HERITAGE.
