Show 26- CULPRIT, INFLATION IS CAUSED BY OR ACCOMMODATED BY A GROWTH IN THE MONEY SUPPLY AND CONTROL OF THE MONEY SUPPLY IS IN FEDERAL HANDS, THOUGH FINE TUNING IT IS NOT A SIMPLE PROBLEM. THE MONEY SUPPLY HAS BEEN INCREASING FASTER THAN THE SUPPLY OF GOODS, PARTLY TO FINANCE EXPENDITURES FOR LOW PRODUCTIVITY ENDEAVORS - THE VIETNAM WAR, MANDATED PRIVATE INVESTMENT TO MEET ENVIRONMENTAL AND OTHER GOVERNMENTAL REQUIREMENTS, AND OF COURSE THE HEAVY AND INCREASING COST OF GOVERNMENT ITSELF, MOUNTING FEDERAL DEFICITS YEAR AFTER YEAR HAVE PUT PRESSURE ON THE FEDERAL RESERVE TO FINANCE THEM. WITHOUT DEBATING HERE WHETHER THE LEGISLATION WAS RIGHT OR WRONG, THE GOVERNMENT HAS ADOPTED MEASURES THAT TEND TO RAISE COSTS AND PRICES, SUCH AS: INCREASES IN THE SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES, INCREASE IN THE MINIUM WAGE, INCREASE IN SUPPORT PRICES FOR SOME FARM PRODUCTS, |
