Show 28. 2. 7 million tons in 1973 compared to 2. 0 million tons in the prior year. Margins rose because of price increases allowed this year to provide relief from the effect of currency revaluations which began in late 1971, although this improvement has been tempered by an increase in labor disputes which has disrupted mine production. New iron ore mines at Shay Gap and Sunrise Hill were opened and will continue to provide part of the tonnage being shipped. For 1974 we anticipate that margins will be well maintained and shipments will be up modestly. Each of the three coking coal mines showed output and profit improvement. Shipments from Blackwater in 1973 will be approximately 3. 3 million tons compared to 3 million tons in the prior year. |
