Show 197 3 involves capital investment in excess of $310 million, of which $12 5 million had been expended at the end of last year. The balance is budgeted for expenditure with $124 million this year, $51 million in 1972 and the remainder in 1973. These expenditures will be financed by retained cash flow and borrowings from banks and institutions where credit lines aggregating approximately $165 million are available. Obviously these funds are being invested with the expectation that they will return increased profits and cause the trend in earnings growth that we have experienced in recent years to continue upward. The key to future growth in this or any other mining company rests on its continuing ability to so manage its exploration efforts that it finds properties worth finding containing mineral reserves worth having and to bring these properties into production at an investment cost that will produce a profit return that management and the shareholders will consider attractive. This has been the policy that has guided our efforts and we have performed successfully under it in the past. We continue to pursue it and to devote an ever increasing sum for exploration and development as we grow and prosper. We select our exploration targets with care and we shift the emphasis of our exploration program as market conditions change and as we detect long term trends that we believe will have an impact on the relative attractiveness of various minerals. As companies- go our management organization is relatively young. The 15 senior officers have an average age of 54 and an average service with the company of 14 years. The President is 48 and I am 56 and the range is 14. |
