Show 6. INVESTMENT FLOWED FROM THE MOTHER COUNTRY TO THE COLONIES, BRINGING WITH IT ITS CONSTANT COMPANIONS - MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY. UNDER COLONIALISM MUCH DEVELOPMENT DID IN FACT TAKE PLACE. THE COLONIES RECEIVED CAPITAL AND ACCESS TO MARKETS. THE MOTHER COUNTRY RECEIVED RAW MATERIALS TO FEED ITS INDUSTRIAL PLANTS. BOTH BENEFITTED BUT NOT NECESSARILY EQUALLY OR EQUITABLY. WORLD WAR II MARKED THE END OF COLONIALISM AND THE UNITED STATES DID MUCH TO BRING ABOUT ITS DEMISE AS A POLITICAL SYSTEM AND, AS A CONSEQUENCE, AS AN ECONOMIC SYSTEM. COLONIALISM WAS INEVITABLY DOOMED IN ANY CASE, FOR IT WAS NOT AN EFFICIENT SYSTEM, A JUST SYSTEM, OR A NECESSARY SYSTEM. IT WAS NOT AN EFFICIENT SYSTEM FOR SEVERAL REASONS.
