Show 7. BE APPOINTED DEPUTY PETROLEUM ADMINISTRATOR FOR WAR IN WASHINGTON. CHANGES WERE ALSO TAKING PLACE IN THE TREASURER'S OFFICE. THE TREASURER RESIGNED TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF PACIFIC CITY LINES, A MASS TRANSIT HOLDING COMPANY IN WHICH STANDARD HAD A SUBSTANTIAL FINANCIAL INTEREST. I WAS LOANED TO PACIFIC CITY LINES FOR 60 DAYS AND OFFERED THE JOB AS TREASURER. BUT AT STANDARD THE ASSISTANT TREASURER WAS MADE TREASURER AND PERSUADED ME NOT TO LEAVE, THOUGH I WAS NEVER REALLY TEMPTED. THEN WITH MR. COLLIER BECOMING PRESIDENT, THE TREASURER WAS MADE VICE PRESIDENT AND SENT TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. THE ASSISTANT TREASURER WAS MADE TREASURER, AND THEY BOTH JOINED IN RECOMMENDING THAT I BE MADE ASSISTANT TREASURER. SINCE I WAS ONLY 27 YEARS OF AGE, THIS RECOMMENDATION WAS BEING ARGUED WHEN THE MATTER BECAME MOOT. ON DECEMBER 7, 1941 I HAD A NEW EMPLOYER, I WAS AN OFFICER IN THE UNITED STATES NAVAL |
