OCR Text	Show 2. THROUGHOUT THE VARIOUS NATIONS OF THE WORLD, OBVIOUSLY THE MORE HIGHLY INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS USE MORE ENERGY PER CAPITA THAN DO THE LESS INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS. BUT OTHER FACTORS PLAY A PART AS WELL, THE UNITED STATES IS THE GREATEST USER OF ENERGY PER CAPITA. UNTIL RELATIVELY RECENTLY ENERGY IN THE UNITED STATES HAS BEEN BOTH ABUNDANT AND CHEAP, AND THESE FACTORS HAVE SPAWNED THE BIG AUTOMOBILES, THE LARGE HOUSES, AND THE PREVALENCE OF SPACE HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. IN CONTRAST, SOME OF THE HIGHLY INDUSTRIALIZED NATIONS OF EUROPE WHERE ENERGY WAS LESS ABUNDANT AND MORE EXPENSIVE, HAVE DESIGNED THEIR INDUSTRIAL FACILITIES, THEIR AUTOMOBILES, AND THEIR MANNER OF LIVING IN WAYS THAT CONSUME LESS ENERGY PER CAPITA OR PER UNIT OF OUTPUT.
