Show 25- AND ECONOMIC PROBLEMS, THE LAUNDRY LIST MUST INCLUDE INFLATION, THE DECLINE OF THE DOLLAR, INADEQUATE CAPITAL FORMATION, LAGGING EXPENDITURES FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, POOR USE OF OUR HUMAN RESOURCES, AND A GOVERNMENTAL PROCESS THAT SEEMS TO BE EXACERBATING RATHER THAN SOLVING THESE PROBLEMS. INFLATION IS A CRUEL BUT NOT INCURABLE CONDITION. IT IS CRUEL BECAUSE IT HURTS EVERYONE AND PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO ARE LEAST ABLE TO PROTECT THEMSELVES - THE POOR, THE ELDERLY, ANYONE WHOSE INCOME IS FIXED OR INADEQUATE. YET THERE IS NO SURE WAY FOR ANYONE TO ESCAPE ITS CONSEQUENCES. INFLATION IN TIME CAN BE CURED AS WEST GERMANY, JAPAN, EVEN AUSTRALIA ARE DEMONSTRATING. INFLATION IN THE UNITED STATES WILL NOT BE CURED QUICKLY OR EASILY BUT WE HAD BEST GET STARTED. TO CURE INFLATION WE NEED TO HAVE A CONSENSUS ON THE CAUSES, AND I WAS HEARTENED TO SEE IN A RECENT GALLUP POLL THAT THE PUBLIC IS BEGINNING TO REALIZE THAT GOVERNMENT IS THE PRIMARY |
