NOW, FOR REASONS I SHALL TOUCH ON LATER, DEVELOPED NATIONS MAY DECIDE THAT IT IS IN THEIR INTEREST TO BECOME MORE SELF SUFFICIENT IN THE MATTER OF RAW MATERIALS, AND THIS IN TURN MAY CAUSE THEM TO TAKE ACTIONS THAT MAKE IT LESS ATTRACTIVE TO INVEST ABROAD AND MORE ATTRACTIVE TO INVEST DOMESTICALLY, THOUGH A REDUCED FLOW OF DIRECT INVESTMENT WILL DAMAGE THE DEVELOPED COUNTRIES, IT WILL BE A DISASTER FOR MANY OF THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES AND EVEN FOR THOSE WELL ADVANCED COUNTRIES WHOSE ECONOMIES HAVE YET SOME DISTANCE TO GO TOWARD INDUSTRIALIZATION AND FULL ECONOMIC MATURITY.
