Show 7. FALLS, COAL PRODUCTION IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE OVER 50% WHILE NUCLEAR WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE RAPIDLY, SUPPLYING THE EQUIVALENT OF 5.5 MILLION BARRELS OF OIL PER DAY - SOMEWHAT LARGER THAN THE TOTAL ENERGY SUPPLIED BY COAL IN 1960, THE SHARE OF TOTAL ENERGY SUPPLIED BY OIL WILL REMAIN VIRTUALLY UNCHANGED BUT THE TOTAL WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE TO 24.5 MILLION OIL BARRELS A DAY. IMPORTS WILL REPRESENT 46% OF THE TOTAL OIL A USED AND 22% OF ALL ESTIMATED U. S. ENERGY REQUIREMENTS. A GREATER PERCENTAGE OF OUR TOTAL ENERGY IS SUPPLIED IN THE FORM OF ELECTRICITY WITH ELECTRICAL GENERATION RISING TO 17.2 MILLION BARRELS PER DAY OF OIL EQUIVALENT IN 1935 - ALMOST TWICE THAT OF THE 1974 LEVEL AND A FIVE-FOLD INCREASE OVER THE 1960 LEVEL. BECAUSE THE CONVERSION OF FUEL TO ELECTRICITY IS THE LEAST EFFICIENT OF THE UTILIZATION PROCESSES, CONVERSION LOSSES IN 1985 ARE EXPECTED TO EXCEED ALL ENERGY USED. |
