Show 14. sharp increases over the corresponding period last year. 17 However, the change in the price-earnings ratio that has characterized Utah International's shares in recent years perhaps can be partially explained by factors that distinguish our company from its principal competitors. Foremost among these is the size and the nature of our Mineral Sales Backlog which started the decade at $330 million and was then composed primarily of long-term contracts for steam coal from our Navajo Mine in New Mexico. Now the backlog is over 10 times the 1964 level -$3.3 billion - with the copper segment calculated at 35 a pound, a price which seems overly conservative in the light of recent history.
