Show rate from 13 to 15 for 1970. The stock was split 3 for 1 and listed on the New York Stock Exchange where it has performed well despite the general decline in the stock market. Of particular significance not only for the year 1969 but for the years ahead was the sizable addition to the mineral sales backlog which increased $740 million during the fiscal year, bringing the total to $1 billion 840 million at year end, compared to only $131 million 10 years ago. 80% of the backlog is represented by long-term contracts containing cost escalation protection and the backlog figures do not include any part of the backlog of either Marcona or Pima. The $200 million addition to the backlog is represented by a 10-year contract for some 60% of the planned production with Mitsui Mining and Smelting Company, and the contract provides for settlement on prices related to copper quotations over the London Metal Exchange. In computing the backlog we have used a 35 copper price, although the current -3- |
