Show 5. GOT HIS MASTERS IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION IN 1936. HE BECAME A TRUSTEE OF THE UNIVERSITY IN 1954. IN 1958 HE LEFT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO BECOME DEAN OF THE GRADUATE SCHOOL OF BUSINESS AND IN THE ENSUING TEN YEARS, EVEN THIS AUDIENCE WILL CONCEDE, BROUGHT THAT INSTITUTION TO A LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE THAT QUALIFIES IT, AT THE VERY LEAST, AS ONE OF THE TWO GREAT GRADUATE SCHOOLS OF BUSINESS. WITH THAT CHORE DONE, ERNIE WENT BACK TO THE BUSINESS WORLD AND AGAIN BECAME AND REMAINS STILL A STANFORD TRUSTEE. FOR THREE YEARS HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE STANFORD ATHLETIC BOARD AND IN 1971 RECEIVED THAT BOARD'S DISTINGUISHED ACHIEVEMENT MEDAL. ERNIE HAS SERVED HIS COUNTRY BOTH IN WAR AND IN PEACE. HE STARTED OUT HIS MILITARY CAREER AS AN OFFICER IN NAVAL INTELLIGENCE. HE NEARLY FINISHED IT OFF THE SHORES OF SICILY WHEN HE DECIDED ONE NIGHT TO EXECUTE THE CLASSIC NAVAL MANEUVER OF "CROSSING THE T" WHICH |
