Show 2 - -- Earnings per share have grown at the rate of 27$. -- Dividends have increased from 16 a share for the year 1964 to 71 in 1974 and the quarterly rate has now been raised to 25. Except in the depressed market place of 1974, the stock price has hit a new high every year since 1964 and the present price reflects an appreciation of over 2000% since that time. -- In each of the last ten years earnings have set a new record. The quality of those earnings has also changed as the size and nature of the mineral sales backlog has grown and changed. Today the mineral sales backlog is over $4 1/2 billion with 91% represented by long-term sales agreements containing escalation clauses affording protection against future cost increases. -- Fortune Magazine places Utah third out of all companies in the FORTUNE 500 in terms of total return to investors (dividends plus price appreciation) for the 1964-1974 period. Had one purchased Utah shares at the time of any of my previous appearances before you, the average compound rate of price appreciation would always have exceeded 20% annually. As a matter of fact, the price appreciation has averaged 27$ since my last appearance before you 3 1/2 years ago, which was a source of some embarrassment to a new and still rather rare breed of security analyst, dubbed by some as "Utah's resident bears"--who emerged at that time with the dire prediction that our stock was overpriced, our growth was bound to slow down, and our political problems manifest.
