AFTER SEVEN MORE PAGES IN THIS VEIN, IT CONCLUDES WITH THIS: "I KNOW THAT THE DESPICABLE CHARACTER OF THIS MOUNTEBANK WILL BECOME KNOWN AS TIME GOES ON, SO THAT THE WONDER WILL BE NOT THAT HE WAS RETIRED FROM THIS RACE, BUT THAT SUCH A DEGENERATE SHOULD HAVE EVER DARED TO OFFER HIMSELF FOR SUCH A POSITION." IN ALL FAIRNESS IT SHOULD BE POINTED OUT THAT THE INTENSITY OF MY GRANDFATHER'S FEELINGS COULD HAVE BEEN INFLUENCED BY THE FACT THAT THE MAYOR IN QUESTION WAS ALSO THE PUBLISHER OF THE RIVAL AND FAR MORE SUCCESSFUL OGDEN NEWSPAPER.
