Show 8. THE UNITED STATES. TEN YEARS AGO UTAH WAS 18TH IN EARNING POWER. IN 1975 WE WERE THIRD. THIS YEAR WE ARE FIRST. IN MARKET VALUE OF THE EQUITY WE ACHIEVED FIRST PLACE IN 197L LOST IT TO KERR-MCGEE IN 1972, AND REGAINED FIRST THIS YEAR. NONE OF THE COMPANIES RIVAL UTAH'S RECORD FOR UNINTERRUPTED GROWTH OR OVER TIME UTAH'S RATE OF GROWTH. PERHAPS IT IS WORTHWHILE TO POINT UP SOME OF THE REASONS THAT HAVE CAUSED UTAH TO OUTPERFORM ITS COMPETITION. FROM OUR CONSTRUCTION DAYS WE INHERITED A MANAGEMENT STYLE THAT STREAMLINED THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS AND FAVORED THOSE WHO WERE WILLING TO MAKE DECISIONS AND CAPABLE OF MAKING THEIR SHARE OF CORRECT DECISIONS. EXCEPT AT THE BOARD LEVEL THERE WERE NO STANDING COMMITTEES. OUR ORGANIZATION WAS SMALL, COHESIVE, AND THE LINES OF AUTHORITY WERE CLEAR. WE WERE NIMBLE WHEN WE NEEDED TO BE NIMBLE |
