Show 9. WORLD IS NOT PRESENTLY SHORT OF ENERGY. NATIONS ARE SHORT OF DOMESTICALLY PRODUCED ENERGY AND SHORT OF FOREIGN EXCHANGE NECESSARY TO PAY FOR IMPORTED ENERGY. THIS BECOMES MORE APPARENT WHEN WE LOOK AT THE FOREIGN EXCHANGE BEING USED TO PAY FOR ENERGY IMPORTS. THE IMPACT ON COUNTRIES IMPORTING SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF ENERGY HAS BEEN MOST SEVERE. THE PROBLEM OF PAYING FOR THESE IMPORTS IS COMPOUNDED BY THE FACT THAT THE MAJOR EXPORTERS OF PETROLEUM DO NOT HAVE THE CAPACITY TO ABSORB IN THEIR COUNTRIES GOODS OR SERVICES IMPORTED FROM THOSE TO WHOM THEIR PETROLEUM IS BEING SOLD. HOW THIS DISPARITY IN THE FLOW OF INTERNATIONAL FUNDS WILL ULTIMATELY BE ACCOMMODATED IS A PROBLEM THAT WILL CHALLENGE THE BEST MINDS OF THOSE ENGAGED IN INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS. |
