CLUB 9/6/79 GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AND A VERY WARM WELCOME, WE ARE GATHERED TOGETHER HERE THIS EVENING TO EXAMINE AND TO PASS FINAL JUDGMENT ON THE RECORD OF ONE CHARLES A. ANDERSON IN CONDUCTING THE AFFAIRS OF SRI OVER THESE PAST 11 YEARS, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS CASE HAS COME TO TRIAL. ON AUGUST 20 THE DEFENDANT WAS APPREHENDED DRINKING AND EATING HORS D'OEUVRES AT THE SRI FACILITIES IN MENLO PARK, TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND BROUGHT PROMPTLY TO TRIAL BEFORE A JURY OF HIS PEERS. HE STOOD ACCUSED OF A LONG LIST OF CRIMES. AYATOLLAH KHOMEINI WOULD HAVE BEEN PROUD OF THE WAY THE TRIAL WAS CONDUCTED AND THE JURY FOUND HIM GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS. THE DEFENDANT FARED LITTLE BETTER WHEN THE DECISION WAS APPEALED. THE COURT OF APPEALS DISMISSED THE LESSER CHARGES BUT UPHELD THE DECISION OF THE LOWER COURT ON THE CHARGES OF ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE SRI AS IF IT WERE A BUSINESS AND CAUSING GRIEVOUS |
